OUR HISTORY
The late Illustrious Henry Allen, 33rd degree, named the Grand Lodge and Grand Chapter, Jeff long Grand Lodge after Jefferson Frank Long. Georgia's only Negro Congressman to serve during reconstruction 1870-1876. Lucy Craft Laney was chosen for rthe Grand Chapter. Giving honor to a school founder and educator who was born in 1854 and died 1933. Both where charted October 4, 1980 under Universal Masonic Brotherhood and Order of the Eastern Star. In 1983, Jeff Long Grand Lodge and Lucy Laney Grand Chapter became members of Reformed Universal Masonic Brotherhood and Order of the Eastern Star Inc. Jeff long Grand Lodge and Lucy Laney Grand Chapter is officially registred and recognized as a tax exempt fraternal organizarion in the State of Georgia and as a non-profit organization.
With the appointment of the Illustrious Alphonoso Metcalf, 33rd degree, as the first Grand Master and Sis. Rosie T. White as the first Grand Matron the state set out to build a scholarship fund as an aid to furthering the education of our leaders for tomorrow.To date, approximately 76 college scholarships have been awarded , in addition to assisting students with financial grants to help defray the cost of books and computers. The scholarships are awarded based on a esssay topic selected each year.
The Brothers and Sisters of Jeff Long Grand Lodge and Lucy Laney Grand Chapter are active in all phases of charity and volunteer work. Food Baskets, clothes and toys are given to needy families at Thanks Giving and Christmas, adopted families are assisted on a continuous need, and the elderly and sick are visited and comforted.Money is rasied throughout the year for donation to various non-profit organizations and to provide scholarships to our youths attending college.
It is the goal of Jeff Long Grand Lodge and Lucy Laney Grand Chapter under the auspices of Reformed Universal Masonic Brotherhood (Scottish Rite Affiliation) to spread Love, and Charity as we follow our motto: "Through strengh and beauty we serve the will of God for the benefit of all mankind"
